Teacher: Mrs F. Wood LSA: Mrs J. Goatham
Welcome to Woodpecker Class!
It has been lovely getting to know your children over the past two weeks and I am looking forward to the year ahead.
This term our topic is Groovy Greeks and we have a lot of exciting art and music activities planned to bring this topic to life. In science we will be learning about classifying living things or grouping them in different ways and the RE theme this term is journeys. Our PE day this term is Monday, but I would be grateful if children would bring in their kit on a Monday and leave it in school until the Friday. This allows the children to be prepared for any additional sports activities or timetable changes!
Year 4 children also have the opportunity to take part in the Swale Festival of Light Parade in Sittingbourne on Friday 10th October (more details will follow). On Tuesday 17th September an artist will come in to make the lanterns with your children.
It would be appreciated if your children could bring in an old shirt or apron to wear in school for any art or craft activities this year.
The main focus this term in mathematics is on place value, but in addition to this the children will be focusing on a different multiplication table each week. Please help them to learn the Table of the Week. They all now have a reading book and should be heard to read daily at home for at least ten minutes. Spellings will be set in class each week and your child will have different activities to help them learn them. They may bring home a copy of these words to learn at home to reinforce the work in the classroom. In our English lessons the class are reading The Great Kapok Tree as a stimulus for writing a narrative and for a piece of persuasive writing. I am certainly looking forward to reading their work later in the term!
Finally, if you have any concerns or worries please do not hesitate to speak to either Mrs Goatham or myself. Our main concern is that your child is happy and enjoying their learning in Woodpecker Class.
Thank you for your future support with your child’s learning.
