With only two weeks left until half term I thought that I would write an update on an incredibly busy start to my time at Sunny Bank and to also provide you with some key dates coming up in the next few weeks.
Firstly, a huge thank you to the parents that attended the Parent Forum last Thursday. It was lovely to be able to sit and talk to you about some of your thoughts and views of the school. The two winners of the Little Potter vouchers drawn at random from the parents that attended are Mrs Tingey and Mrs Chrom please come to the school office to collect.
This week sees the start of the Year 6 SATs tests and I would like to wish all children the very best as they work hard to show what they can do. I am sure that they will all try their hardest and as a school we can ask for nothing more. Year 2 have also been hard at work over the last couple of weeks completing their assessments. As a reward for the pressure of this week and as a celebration for all the hard work and effort required, we will be holding a Year 6 vs Staff football match at 2.30pm on Thursday 16th May. Parents of Year 6 children only are invited to come and watch a friendly match.
There will be a MADD day on Monday 20th May where the children will be participating in a range of activities involving music, art, dance and drama around the theme of Respect. This will be a non-uniform day for the children.
The target for whole school attendance is 96% which we hit during the first week of term. However last week this stood at 92.7%. Please can I encourage you to send your child to school every day, unless they are unwell, as this is a key judgement with Ofsted and can prevent the school from achieving a higher judgement.
Our new Family Liaison Officer (FLO) Miss Allen is happy to support you in attendance and other matters.
We also have a new Year 2 teacher, Miss Turner, who joined the school this term and I am delighted at how well she has settled into Kingfisher class.
Finally, I would like to inform you that Mrs Gee, who has fulfilled the role of Deputy Head and SENCO over the last few years is leaving Sunny Bank to take on a new challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work and for helping me to familiarise myself with the school. There will be a new Deputy Head / SENCO in post for September.
A reminder that the school will be closed on Thursday 23rd May for use as a polling station in the European Elections and also on Monday 3rd June for a Staff Development Day. Children return to school for Term 6 on Tuesday 4th June.
Without the help and support of parents my job is made much more difficult and I thank you for your ongoing support.
Mr D Waters
Head of School
