Gates and collection of children
Year 1 have completed their first week successfully after moving from Church Road and on the whole have settled well and enjoyed the experience.
With most of the school now on the same site, I have been reviewing the timings of the school day.
From Monday 25th November all classes from Year 1 – Year 6 will now finish at 3.15pm, the school gate will be open between 3.10 – 3.25 to collect your children. Tonge Road and Church Road gates will continue to open at 2.55pm for collection of children in Year R. The morning timings will remain the same.
With the winter months and evenings getting darker earlier, we have also looked at our collection procedure.
Children in Years 5 & 6 only will be allowed to walk home on their own and to ensure that our youngest pupils are kept safe on the way home, they must be collected by an adult or person of suitable age/maturity. Please find new permission forms for collection of your child attached to the letter sent home. Please can you complete and return to the school office so that we can update our records.
You can also download and print our forms from HERE
Behaviour and attendance
With nearly two terms gone in the school year we have also been reviewing factors that are having a negative impact on the progress that we need to make to improve the quality of education at the school. Behaviour of some pupils is still impacting on the learning of others and so we have looked at what else needs to happen for this to get better.
We have talked to the children and will be making changes to ensure that when children are at school they understand that they need to be in class and focussed on their learning.
From Monday, any child that is rude, disrespectful or aggressive to adults that are trying to help them and leave the classroom refusing their support, will no longer be followed. As we are unable to guarantee pupils safety if they run away into the school site, parent/carers will be called to come and collect them immediately.
Attendance has been a key priority of the school for a number of years and is also a key factor as children need to be at school consistently for their learning to be the best that it can be. The school is set a target of 96% and we will continue to work hard with parents to support you if you find it challenging to send your child(ren) to school on time, every day. However, our current attendance total is 92.9% which shows that too many children are still not attending school regularly enough.
Although I appreciate that some absence, particularly illness, is unavoidable, from Monday we will be contacting families where children have a low attendance to put actions in place that will ensure that attendance improves. This will include formal letters, meetings with me to discuss further support and use of the penalty notice sanction for periods of unauthorised absence, including term time holidays.
If you would like to discuss any of these updates further, then please come and see me or call the school and I will be happy to talk to you about them.
