Dear Parents / Carers,
We are exactly half way through Term 1 and as a school have already achieved so much. The children are working hard and have focussed on values of expectation, collaboration, resilience and taking risks with their learning and I am very proud of the attitude and commitment that most pupils are showing towards their learning.
There are a number of exciting initiatives that we will be starting, to reward the children that try their hardest to succeed and to help the school grow and develop even further.
From this week you will see an increase in the number of reward certificates that will be sent home from each class. Star of the Week, Writer of the week, Maths and Reading awards will all be presented over the course of a term and the children will be celebrated by a Wall of Achievement that we will email weekly. This will also be displayed in the hall. Teachers will also be sending home ‘Notes of praise’ for children that are making a special effort.
Walk on Wednesday
We will be launching our brand new initiative Walk on Wednesday (WOW) next week – look out for the letter coming home on Monday with more details.
This year we will be supporting National Mental Health Day on Thursday October 10th –
# HelloYellow. Further details will follow but the children will be able to wear yellow for a donation of £1.00
I have been made aware that there are days when gates, particularly on Church Road and Tonge Road are not being opened on time or at all.
Each gate should be open from 8.40-8.55am in the morning and 2.55-3.10pm in the afternoon (main Sunny Bank gate is 3.05-3.30).
From next week myself, my assistant head Miss Baird and our Family Liaison Officer Miss Allen will rotate gate duty. If you would like to talk to us about anything, please come and say hello.
Mrs Conium and Mrs Cole will still be available on the Sunny Bank gate every day.

Please ensure your child is in school on time. If your child is going to be late or absent from school, please telephone the school office before 9:00am to advise accordingly. You can text us with your child’s absence on 07860055264 before 9:30 on the day of absence and there after until their return to school.
It is very disruptive when children arrive late into school and they can miss informative information that is given to the children by their teacher and this can have an adverse effect on a pupil’s learning.
Attendance was a key priority in the recent Ofsted inspection and we will be reviewing our policy regarding sanctions for families that persistently arrive late at school, have attendance of less than 90% or take unauthorised leave for the purpose of a family holiday in term-time.
A reminder that once children have been collected at the end of the day, they are your responsibility. They should not be using the play equipment without supervision.
The school is working alongside the police and Kent County Council to provide support to children who have been present, or exposed to or involved in any domestic abuse incident. Please find attached a letter regarding further details of this project.
