MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Welcome to the second edition of the Governors Newsletter. I hope that you found the September edition interesting and informative and that it gave you an insight into the work of School Governors.

Following the invitation for applications for Parent Governors, I am pleased to welcome to the Governing Board, Mrs Carol Angus. In addition, I am also pleased to welcome Reverend George Rogers and Mrs Gloria Williams who have both been appointed Co-opted Governors. Their personal and professional skills will make a positive contribution to the governance of Sunny Bank. There is currently a vacancy for one more Parent Governor and two vacancies for a Co-opted Governor. If you are interested in either of these roles, please contact the school office who will put you in touch with the appropriate person.

The Governing Board have been looking at how we can make ourselves more recognisable to the whole school community which has led to us making improvements to the Governor’s webpage; please see below for details.

The past term has been an exciting one with some challenges for the Governing Board, Senior Leadership Team and staff. There have been necessary changes that have been embraced by all the staff and the Governing Board wish to acknowledge their professionalism and readiness to adopt these new practices.

Finally, on behalf of the Governing Board, I wish Parents/Carers, Staff and Pupils a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year.

NEW LOOK TO THE GOVERNOR’S WEB PAGE

There are some new additions to the Governors web page. Each governor now has a photo with a short statement outlining their background, experience and their commitment to governance and the school. Please have a look and get to know us better.

We are publishing the Minutes of the Governing Board meetings for you to read. We hope that these minutes will be of interest and give an insight into how the Board works and how decisions are made. Governor Newsletters are now published on the web page.

SCHOOL GOVERNOR VACANCIES

There are currently a few vacancies on the Governing Board one of which is for a Parent Governor. A letter will be sent to Parents/Carers in Term 3 inviting them to apply to become a Parent Governor and we would encourage any Parent/Carer who is interested in the position to complete the nomination form and hand it into the school office at the Sunny Bank site. This is an important and vital role which enables us to work effectively. There are two vacancies for Co-opted Governors who are appointed by the Governing Board. If you are interested in becoming a Co-opted Governor, then please contact the school office to register your interest. The Clerk to Governors will be informed and will contact you. Full training and mentoring will be given so you can become familiar with the work of a School Governor.

A DAY AT SCHOOL

Governors have decided to spend a whole day at school to help them get to know the school really well. Governors will visit classrooms and take part in everyday activities such as lunch and assembly during the course of the day. They will be talking to staff and pupils and reporting on their experience to the Governing Board. Each Governor has been allocated one day in each term to cover the academic year.

RECENT EVENTS ATTENDED BY GOVERNORS

Carol Angus (Parent Governor) and Sue Batters (Vice-Chair) were pleased to meet parents/carers at the recent Parent Consultation evenings. Thank you to all parents who signed up to Parent View, your opinions really matter to us and help with our strategic planning. If you have not signed up and completed the simple questionnaire, please think about doing so. Carol Angus has responsibility for Parent View and reports progress back to the Governing Board.

The Governors are planning to be represented at most school events throughout the year and these visits will be discussed at the Full Governing Board meetings. Look out for us and feel free to approach us for a chat.
