Welcome to the first issue of the Sunny Bank Governors Newsletter. The Governing Board is aware that many parents and carers may not know who the Governors of Sunny Bank are and what they are responsible for. These occasional newsletters are intended to go some way to rectifying this and will bring you news of what the Governing Board are doing in discharging their statutory duties, holding the Executive Headteacher to account and monitoring the progress and outcomes for your children whilst they are at Sunny Bank.
Last year was one of huge change. The amalgamation of the former Murston Nursery /
Infants School and Murston Junior School took place and presented many challenges to staff, pupils, governors and parents. It was pleasing to see that the whole school community worked together to meet the challenges with enthusiasm and vigour under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team.
At the end of last term Mrs Taylor (Consultant Headteacher) left the school to move on to a new position and the Governing Board thanked her for the work she had undertaken in the school throughout the year. Two new members of staff who made up the SLT joined in January, Mrs Harrap -Stanley as Deputy Head and Mrs Gee as Assistant Headteacher. I am pleased to say that both are remaining at the school during the next phase of Sunny Bank’s future with Mrs Harrap-Stanley appointed as Acting Head of School.
The Governing Board, after looking at all options to secure the stability and financial future of Sunny Bank decided to enter into a Contract of Agreement with Hampton Primary School in Herne Bay. Ms Y. Nunn has been appointed as Executive
Headteacher for Sunny Bank to build on the work begun last year and we welcome Ms Nunn on joining the school. During this year the Governing Board will be monitoring the progress made under Ms Nunn’s leadership with a view to possibly joining the Hampton Collaborative Trust and becoming an academy. Should this be the case please be assured that all interested parties, including parents and staff, will be consulted at each stage and their views given every consideration.
Finally, on behalf of the Governing Board, I would like to welcome all new staff, pupils and their parents/carers who have joined Sunny Bank this year and offer assurance to the whole school community that the Governing Board will be supporting them throughout the coming year.
WOULD YOU CONSIDER BECOMING A SCHOOL GOVERNOR?
The Governing Board have vacancies for Parent Governors and
Co-opted Governors. Invitations have already been sent out for parents to put themselves forward as Parent Governors and we would encourage any parent who is interested in the position to complete the nomination form and hand it into the school office at the Sunny Bank site. Parent and Co-opted Governors have an important and vital role to pla y on the Governing Board. Parent Governors are nominated and elected by parents whose children attend the school; Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Board and interested persons should contact the school office on the Sunny Bank site to register their interest. The Clerk to Governors will be informed and will contact you.
Being a Governor gives the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the school’s progress, outcomes for pupils and to help shape its future. It is a challenging position but also offers many rewards. Full training and mentoring is provided so that you can ease into the role with confidence.
