The Secret Garden (Topic and English)

Deciduous or evergreen? What can you find? Can you match a leaf to its tree? Can you match a petal to its flower?

In science we will be learning about different plants, trees and animals found in gardens and woodlands. We will be growing our own plants and will use this experience to help us write instructions about how to plant seeds and an explanation of how plants grow. In English we will be writing our own stories based on several different photographs of sunflowers. In art, we will use different medias (e.g. paint, pastels and collage) to create flower pictures.

This term we are going to be revising the Maths topics that we have covered this year. We will start by focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.

Our P.E days are now Tuesday and Thursday. All children should have named plimsolls, T-shirt and shorts. On P.E days, we would be grateful if all jewellery could be removed before school.

Parent Story time

Our library story time continues to be Wednesday morning.

Year 2 SATs

The Year 2 children will be sitting their SATs in May. They will complete two reading papers, a grammar, punctuation and spelling test and two maths papers. I will also be assessing the writing in their English books.

Year 1 Phonics Check

The Year 1 Phonics Screening is the week beginning 12th June.

Please support your child with daily reading of their school reading books or books that you have at home. Please write a comment in their reading record every time they read to you (it does not have to be a school reading book). Your comments help us to choose the most appropriate books for your child and ensure maximum progress.

Please help your child to learn the spellings that we send home for the weekly spelling test. It is also helpful for children to revisit spellings sent home in previous weeks to see if they can remember them!

The Year 1 Phonics Screening is the week beginning 12th June. Please help your child to learn all the phonics sounds on the sound mats previously sent home.

Year 2 SATs

Please help your child to complete the SATs preparation homework that will send home every week.

Many thanks for your support. If you have any queries please feel free to make an appointment to speak to me.
