Dear Parents / Carers

Term 6 has started very positively and I am extremely proud of the attitude and focus that the children are putting into their learning. This term is incredibly busy and packed full of some exciting opportunities for the children – class trips, Sports Day, Year 6 Production and Nursery graduation to name a few.

As I begin to understand the school more, there may be some changes that I will trial to develop a greater consistency and clarity across the school. These will always focus on either pupil safety and well-being or developments in teaching and learning. You may have already noticed our new car park security fence and last week each class had a brand new BENQ interactive whiteboard installed to ensure that Sunny Bank is up to speed with new technology. I have also started an upgrade programme of maintenance for each classroom involving new carpets, blinds and furniture. For Sunny Bank to be the best we need to look the best!

This term we are reviewing our behaviour policy and the systems that are in place and have decided to trial a simpler method focusing on the current behaviour ladder. This will mean that during Term 6 Class charts will not be used to record positive or negative behaviour, although children will still be able to collect and exchange positives for rewards. I appreciate that some parents access this system from home, however I am keen to look at alternatives that may be better for the school and ask for your support. Opportunities for feedback will be provided at the end of the term before any permanent changes are made and I would welcome your views at this point.

If you have any suggestions or ideas on what other improvements or developments Sunny Bank may need then please let me know. I can be emailed directly on

I look forward to seeing many of you during Term 6.

Yours sincerely

Mr D Waters
