Head of School’s Message

It is the final newsletter of the academic year and we have much to celebrate!

The school has raised standards of attainment in all reported Government data. Our KS2 SATS had a 100% increase on our combined score from last year. This means that in a year, 100% more pupils have achieved age related expectations in Year 6 than in the past two years.

We are so very proud of all of our Year 6 pupils, both they and the staff have worked exceptionally hard to achieve this progression. We will all miss the Year 6 pupils, they have all experienced successful transition sessions within their new schools and are certainly secondary ready. Sunny Bank school community wish them well.

This term has been full of hard work, fun and friendship. The Fun Day was most certainly fun, the staff also enjoyed the bouncy castles! KS1 and KS2 sports days were successful, with all children accessing the events. Non school uniform days have also been exciting with a wide range of items being kindly donated for the school fair. The school fair raised a massive £920.00 which will be used towards enrichment activities.

Pupils have all spent time with their new teachers and have learnt their British Wildlife themed class names. We have renamed the classes to reflect our rich and diverse school environment, check out the video on YouTube.

In September 2018 we are publishing new Behaviour and Attendance Policies. Attendance is disappointing as the national average is currently 96%. At Sunny Bank our attendance is below 96%.

From September, Children will be rewarded with a token if they have 100% attendance for the term. Tokens will be entered into a draw at the end of each term. The winner of the draw will receive a bike and helmet. Each child will have 6 chances over the 6 terms to achieve 100% attendance. Children with proven hospital appointments will not be penalised.

The Behaviour Policy celebrates children who are “ready to learn” and remain on green in class following the policy and school values. Each term children who remain on “ready to learn” will be entered into a class draw, the winner of the draw will receive a £20 family Swallows voucher.

Whilst we are only just on our journey to outstanding, we are heading in the right direction on a rapid trajectory, with pupils at the very HEART of our purpose.

Thank you for your continued support, your donations and your participation in school life. Follow us on FB, bookmark the website and celebrate children’s success! Enjoy your summer holiday!
