As we prepare to convert to an academy, there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account for this to happen as smoothly and as quickly as possible, many of which are out of our hands.
We are currently working alongside The Island Learning Trust to drive forward standards and expectations in teaching and learning.
One of the biggest issues currently, is how effectively the school can operate over both Church Road and Sunny Bank sites. We are scheduled to have a new block of classrooms and a new nursery built next year and in preparation for this and to further develop the school as a community we will be moving out of Church Road site this month.
The following timeline for November will hopefully explain how we will be managing this:
Week 2 – Year 2 Owls will join the rest of Year 2 in Ladybirds permanently (to be called Ladybirds Class) – they will still be taught by Mr Okutubo and Miss Murgatroyd throughout the week. From Monday 11th November parents will need to collect Year 2 children from Ladybird class door.
Week 3 – Year 1 Hedgehogs and Fawns will join together and begin to have some lessons during the day on the Sunny Bank site, they will still be taught by Mrs Martin and Miss England.
Week 4 – From Monday 18th November, Year 1 will move down to Sunny Bank permanently (to be called Hedgehogs Class). Parents will need to drop off and collect using the Sunny Bank entrance gate. You are welcome to walk your child around to class for the first couple of weeks to help them settle into a new routine.
Week 4 & 5 – Squirrels class will have some lessons during the day at the Nursery, they will still be taught by Mrs Warren. From Monday 2nd December Reception class will be based in the Nursery. There will be a re-organisation of this area to ensure that the consistently high provision for both our Nursery and our Year R children continues and we are excited about becoming an Early Years team in the same location.
Learning Support Assistants will remain with their classes.
From Monday 2nd December, Church Road gate will not be in use. Parents with children in Year R will need to use the Tonge Road entrance to drop off and collect their children.
Whilst this is not ideal, there is a clear plan to make it as successful as possible for the children involved – but will require everybody’s support for this to happen.
I will be holding a brief parent meeting in Church Road hall on Thursday 7th November at 3.30pm if you would like further details and to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
