Baird Class Newsletter - Term 1

We hope you had a wonderful summer and are refreshed and ready for the new year ahead.

Our new topic this term is ‘Tribal Tales’ and we will be learning the prehistoric periods of the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. We will be discovering how humans survived and what life was like during this time period. In Science we will studying the ‘Life of Plants.’

Children are expected to come to school in full uniform everyday. This is a white polo shirt, grey or black skirt or trousers and a navy blue jumper/cardigan with or without the school logo. School shoes are to be sensible black shoes. All uniform must be named to ensure everyone’s belongings can be easily found at the end of the day.

Please bring P.E. kits into school ASAP and they are to be left in school everyday. A P.E. kit is a white t-shirt (with or without school logo), blue or black shorts and trainers or plimsolls. As the weather is now cooler children are welcome to wear tracksuit bottoms in a suitable school colour. Please ensure all kit is named and is in a clearly named bag. We will usually do PE on a Thursday.

Next week, children will be bringing home their PIP books. (Parents in Partnership) in which we would like them to complete topic homework tasks taken from the sheet provided with the book. These tasks can be completed in whatever time frame suits you across the term but the book must be returned by the end of term with the pieces of work completed. This can be written into the book or just be photographs of the homework activity taking place.

In addition to the Topic homework we ask that the children learn spellings each week, these will also be found in the PIP book.. Times tables should also be practised during the week .

All children will have a reading book to take home everyday, along with their reading contact book. To make the best progress it is important that your child has an opportunity to read alongside an adult at home everyday for around 15 -20 minutes. We would be very grateful if could record any home reading your child does in their reading contact book. Thank you.

Many clubs are available afterschool including sports and choir so please ask at the office if your child is interested in taking part in any after school activities.

Many thanks
