The Secret Garden (Topic and English)
Deciduous or evergreen? What can you find? Can you match a leaf to its tree? Can you match a petal to its flower?
In science we will be learning about different plants, trees and animals found in gardens and woodlands. We will be growing our own plants and will use this experience to help us write instructions about how to plant seeds and an explanation of how plants grow. In English we will be learning the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. In art, we will use different medias (e.g. paint, pastels and collage) to create flower pictures.
This term we are going to be learning about addition and subtraction, and will continue to develop our mental calculation. We will also be using repeated addition (e.g. 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20) as a way of introducing the concept of multiplication. We will carry out division by sharing and grouping objects. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes.
Our P.E days are now Monday and Thursday. All children should have named plimsolls, T-shirt and shorts. On P.E days, we would be grateful if all jewellery could be removed before school.
Library Story time
Our library story time continues to be Tuesday morning.
Please support your child with daily reading of their school reading books. Please draw a ☺ or write a comment in their reading record. Your comments help us to choose the most appropriate books for your child and ensure maximum progress.
Please help your child to learn the spellings that we send home for the weekly spelling test. It is also helpful for children to revisit spellings sent home in previous weeks to see if they can remember them!
The Year 1 Phonics Screening is the week beginning 12th June. Please help you child to learn all the phonics sounds on the sound mats previously sent home.
Please help your child to count forwards to 100, backwards from 100, and count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
I have enjoyed working with the children in Anning Class and wish them all the best for the future.
I am excited to be joining Anning Class on their journey in Year 1, and am looking forward to getting to know and support both you and your child for the rest of the year.
